Does stained glass and UPVC really go?

This is the proof that indeed it does! I was recently called to a clients house who had had their original stained glass fanlights removed from their bay windows in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. They had installed UPVC windows in their place, but realised they had made a mistake in not re-using the pretty leaded panels. They asked me if I could help. It was no trouble for me to resize the panels, adding new colourful red and yellow borders. I then took the newly sized and restored panels to my glazier who fitted them into sealed double glazed units, which he then installed into the clients house. This is the beautiful result. Just goes to show old and new work incredibly well sometimes!

Listed cottage restoration project

We have just finished restoring the damaged leaded windows at a beautiful little picture postcard cottage down in Somerset. The building is Grade 2 listed, but this didn't present a problem for us as the glass can be stripped of the old leads and re-leaded with pretty much exactly the same materials as when it was first built. The whole job took around 6 weeks to complete, and the owners were  particularly pleased with the results. While the windows were out and work was being carried out on them on the bench, the owner restored, re-treated and re-painted the metal casement frames they fit into and they looked good as new!

Lightboxes

I have been thinking about an idea for nearly as long as Inspiral Glass has been running, and the last year or so has finally seen it come to fruition. After installing many beautiful panels into various client's houses, I always thought it a bit of shame to think that they may move some day, and have to leave their stunning, unique and highly personal works of art behind. So I came up with a solution: fit the panels into wooden boxes, lit from inside, that can be mounted and dis-mounted on any wall, in any house, and can move as many times as you do. Just like a picture but a lighting installation as well. Multi-purpose, gorgeous, and yours forever. Fantastic!
I can make one of these bespoke for you to a design of your choice, or alternativley, I can teach you to make your own! Contact me for more details on these beautiful stained glass lightboxes.

Next Steps for those who wish to progress further!

I also teach stained glass to the more ambitious among you. If you already have some experience in working with glass, I will take you through creating a panel of your design from the design to finishing.
At a time convenient for you. Let me know if you are interested and I will meet up with you for a design consultation. I charge these projects at £15 per hour on a pay-as-you-go basis, as everybody works at their own rate, and you just can't rush genius! This is a panel my last student made and I have installed into her home above her front door. It looks great, and she is really proud of herself as this is only her second stained glass project ever! What a star student!
This lovely lady is just starting her stained glass project, and is going to make a gift for her husband-lucky thing!
